Installing Air Inake on AE111

Postby HZRDIZ » Sat Jul 14, 2007 4:06 pm

OK so my car air instake is sitting dismantled down in the garage cause I cannot for the life in me figure out how it is to be attached to the throttle body. As far as I can tell, itss just meant to sit loosly there but that cant be right - am i missing something???

Also there are two sensors that attched to the previous intake - one from the engine (which i assume is the air flow meter perhaps??) and one which connects to the diagnostics box - now im assuming i plug in the one from the engine as that one looks way more important but its not long enoug hto reach the new piping i bought - it was designed for an AE111 but it all seems to be bung - can someone post a pic of what their AE111 looks like under the bonnet so i can have a closer look??

Cheers - any help would be great

The air box bolts to the car using about 2 bolts. THe temperture sensor is the sensor.

You then put the filter in and the top of the box goes on and clips to the bottom. The diagnostics plug just clips on.

THis is all off the top of my head, let me know if you want some photos.

Bump

It appears the chrome intake i bought is a bit to short even though it was made for a "Corolla" - it seems to be missing a hole for the pipe that runs to the engine/cam cover and only has one for the sensor that runs from the diagnostic box - at the moment I just have the standard piping with the simota pod on the end so the air flow is still running to the engine.

Any suggestions or do i need to take the intake back and replace it with a proper one?

there shouldn't be a hole that runs from the cam cover to the intake pipe. the hole in your cam cover should have a small pipe running straight back into the intake manifold.

i don't fully understand your problem, to attach the pipe to the throttle body, you need a piece of flexi-rubbery stuff between the throttle body and the intake pipe, i dunno what its called. then, 2 clamps (the screw type) go on either side of this flexible stuff to keep it all tight.

His intake pipe is missing the bit where hes meant to plumb the cam cover pipe in. You can set up a catch can for this pipe instead of putting it back in the intake (which is actually better for your car), but it sounds like you bought it from a shop, so i would return it and ask them to replace it or modify it for you.

like i said, that shouldn't be going back into the intake pipe? at least thats the case on every car i can remember... especially so on my 16v 4age... unless its different on a 20v?

Its normal for the cam cover to be plumbed into the intake, alot of toyotas do come like that standard. My 3SGTE does. Altho its not the best idea, because AFAIK the oil fumes affect the octane rating of the fuel or something (correct me if im wrong) and makes your engine lose performance.

How do i set up a catch can for this part? Cause if thats the case thats all i'll do, problem solved - or else i was going to take it back to the store tomorrow and get them to replace it with something that mioght fit better.
