Using PCLink software with LEMG3

Postby Crucible » Sun Jul 15, 2007 4:23 pm

Im having problems hooking my p.c up to my G3, I have downloaded and installed both software and USB drivers from Link site and followed the correct procedure for installing both.

I have then gone into Options-> connections and selected each Com port one by one and attempted to hook up using the red "L" in the centre of the screen, but keep getting the "Cant connect to Link" bar.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled s/ware and drivers twice, New USB cable, lem has good + supply and the key is on. Ive triple checked everything and all is ok.

Anyone had this problem and know what I am doing wrong? cheers

i went through about 4times until it said install successful. then it went. not very user friendly thats for sure.

Can't say I've ever had any hassles with using PClink on the Lem G3's & I've had the software/drivers for a while. I even did the install on a ew laptop last week & it's worked fine with the LEM G3's that've been through the shop this week. Can't say I've tried running it under windows vista yet, so that could be an issue if you are running that but I doubt it. We've got numerous computers we use & none of them has had issues with the PClink software/drivers yet. Just make sure you've got the latest software/drivers to suit your application & perhaps do a clean install.

ok cheers, yep like Brendon says, Ive used the lastest software and drivers from the same link website, I noticed an earlier version V3.29, maybe I should give that a go?.

I have an old P.C (windows 98SE) so maybe its not really compatable???

If your running the latest version of PC link,

when you go to select the com port there should be an option for auto.

What cable are you trying to connect with? The one that came with it?

BTW USB is very sensitive how long the cable is.
With shitty hardware and shitty cable combination you might get random faults.

ok, yeah the cable is 1m usb and is brand new, Ive checked the usb outlets at the back of the p.c with my digi cam and its all good.

Brendon has had the same problems too, so I thought it may of been the software at fault, but I guess not.

when you do it, jsut keep installing the drivers until it says it's good. then it should work, mine works easy now, once i got that initial hassle over with, just plug in and go

just for the record.....

PC Link doesnt seem to be very compatable with Winds98/98SE, got on the phone with ih8tec on Sat and we ran through the install procedure together, clean install, it seemed to find the ecu in the usb port in the end but couldnt install the drivers and still wouldnt hook up,tryed everything!!!

I borrowed a mates lap top with WinsXP yesterday, installed Software and drivers from CD,connected the usb and it connected to my link straight away, easy as!!!!. Maybe there is a way with 98 but definately NOT user friendly!

Is anyone successfully used pc link with winds98-98/se?, If I can get it happening it would be wicked.

link must change their software stuff pretty quick, because we only jsut downloaded the latest one, i dont know, last week some time.

just had a look now and thats old lol, we got the v3.30. now that doesn't exist on their site, i'm gonna get the new v3.31, but possibly for you try v3.29 which says it has drivers for 98?

see how that goes.

if you try connect to the link before installing the drivers it can stuff things up. the comlink/usb links were bad for this too

oh yep, I saw that older version, will give that a try. Failing that Ill call link and see if there is a way around it all. quickstarlie, yep I made that mistake on another p.c, but I think thats still whats happening on a laptop i have, as it gives the icon "installed successfully" but then cant find the drivers

for the record, it doesnt work with the V3.29 either, even though it says its suitable for Winds98

So in short if you buy a Link e.c.u and want to tune it yourself, you need at least WindowsXP or Later!!!

As for the frequent software updates/firmwae updates it's because Link is constantly updating the trigger options, writing new code to allow for extra features using the inputs/outputs & refining things already in the ecu. It's not uncommon for some oddball stuff to have Link update the software several times in a week or even a day as they add to the software. That's why sometimes it pays to check & get the latest version of the software. I normally run the latest version & a version a bit before it, just in case there is some hassle with the latest version.
