4agte plenium

Postby Zyros » Wed Jul 25, 2007 11:23 pm

Hey, i heard that the standard 4age (silvertop) intake manifold wont handle boost?

And i see alot of people have front facing custom plenum's, where did you guys get these made, and also..

Would a 4agze ae101 manifold such as..
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Toyota/Engines-drive-trains/photos/a-110064971/p-43441945.htm
Do the trick?

Thanks.

you will need to get something fabbed up as there is no factory part that will bolt on. ie the 4agze manifold won't fit as it cant attatch to the quad throttles.

the stock plenum on a 20v is two sections of pressed steel with a rubber seal which can leak under boost

Could you not just weld up the stock one?
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

Would be a bit difficult to bolt it back on, as the mounting holes are actually inside the box.

Ended up making the plenum and a thick plate for mine. Nuts welded on the inside of the plenum. The plate bolted onto the throttles and there were holes in to bolt the plenum to the plate once it was on the throttles.

Was the easiest way to bolt it on. Can round off the top of the plate where the plenum mates up to it, and match the other side of the to the throttles. Dunno how much it would help with the flow but better than just bolting something onto them I would imagine

Why's the plenum facing the opposite way to standard?
Any particular reason?

Couple of reasons.

One that it was better for intercooler piping (shorter and easier) being that it was a VR4 cooler in there. Its tight where it goes into the plenum but just be careful and there is enough room for it.

Two was that there was a chance of it going into a RWD setup and may as well just make the plenum so there was an option and wouldn't have to make another one.

Would you do a cash deal on one of those plenum;s if your keen on making another one?

Except facing the other way, standard way.

OR, make it so that you can flip it round on the same plate?

Haha, nah man. Workmate knocked that up for me and it look a while. Being stainless didn't help things much. Think the dude who bought my motor ended up just throwing that out actually

actiondan made my one.
I got the plenum plates made, Dan just welded onto it.

Plates are like $150 water cut and CNCing around the intake mouths, and dan charges about $250ish to make the plenum part.
