4AGZE Alternator options

Postby Calvin » Mon Aug 06, 2007 3:20 pm

I have a 4agze big port engine in an ae92. Currently using the ae92 bracket with the alternator, power steering and air con pumps attached to the front.
My alternator is buggered and it is unbelievably difficult to find a 4agze alt at a reasonable price.

So question is.. What can i use a N/A 4age alternator of the like? and what would i need to do in terms of modifications etc..?

Please give me some recommendations as to what i could do

From my limited experience as an auto elec,

i believe the GZE one's are a specific one of there own and the spacings are diffferent which means you need a GZE alt, or you need to make a custom made bracket for a normal GE one.

If the rotor in them is OK then everything else in them is repairable/replaceable, but the rotor in them is specific as it has a really long shaft.

Thanks matt.. So if i were to use a different bracket (eg. 4AGE) which to my understanding sits where the SC is.. would that work if i were to remove the SC?

Hey man, sorry to steal your thread, but I'm just wanting to know if there are any differences between fwd and rwd bluetop alternators?

And if you've got one for sale in Chch, I'd be interested. Cheers. :)
