What a mess *edit:pics

Hey all.

Pics to come once the lunar eclipse is over..

The previous owner of my Trueno had a pretty decent sounds setup in the boot, the remanents of which are still there (wires, fuse, 2 neons), anyway as part of my somewhat anal approach to cleaning up/restoring the car, i'm tidying up the bodywork in the boot (small rust spots etc) but the damned thing is coated in what I guess is acoustic dampening foam, from an aerosol can.

This s##t is EVERYWHERE, i've been scraping it off for the last 2 hours, unfortunately due to the pathetically thin layer of paint on the car, paints coming off too, scratch marks everywhere. This doesn't worry me so much, just adds extra work and money for primer/paint, but i'm wondering if theres a better way of getting this crap off.

So does anyone have any experience with this stuff? Whats the best way to remove it? Looks similar to the stuff they use in boats etc.

If you like the smell of petrol and not afraid of going up in big boom, use petrol.

Petrol didn't overly help unfortunately. Having a bit of luck with a decent citrus degreaser on the thiner parts

if you're not worried about removing the paint, as you mentioned, then I would be tackling it with a grinder and wire brush attached. Used this technique helping Distrb to remove all the under seal from beneath his car, very effective.

I'd prefer not to have to repaint the entire thing, but yeah that's something that hadn't occured to me. Will get as far as I can with this degreaser and try that.

Cheers

Use MEK... Methyl Ethyl Ketone.

That should get it off... and where a mask and thick rubber gloves when using it as it is pretty strong stuff.

if a solvent wont work next step is stripper or something that will break it down.

If the citrus thing isnt working and you end up having to go to the expence of painting etc...then just use break fluid.
It will strip the paint off as well and it will be a case of primer-ing (sp) straight away, but it will remove anything the fluid touches in under 30secs. (trust me, a mate spilt it onto my firewall, and it made the entire firewall look like stainless steel for a day or 2 till the surface rust kicked in)

Got most of it off. Spent basically all day yesterday on it. Citrus degreaser, scraper, and a hairdryer for certain parts that were different stuff.

Turps, petrol, meth spirits all didn't do alot other then smell good.

Just need to get in there with a wet rag to get the left over stuff.

What an absolute pr**k of a job that was, to be fair.
