Extending throttle cables

Postby blackmk3 » Wed Aug 29, 2007 9:16 am

Ive made a new front facing intake manifold for my 7mgte as opposed to the factory one that runs over the engine

The throttlebody is a lexus v8 one and it has the same turning circumfrence as the stock 7m one so thats all ok, what i have done for this moment is cut the stock cable off at is longest point and connected a auto kickdown cable i had to the TB and join the two cable ends at this stage ive just used a bit of 1/4 copper tube and crushed it around the wires, tested it and it works mint but i just want to make it look tidier and put a sleeve over it

What have you guys used when youve extended TB cables?

Ive thaught about maybe using one of those heatsrink crimp on electrical connectors crimping it up and srinking it down? would this hold it? or just break one day and leave me stranded on the side of the road

Thanks
Nick

Idealy you want to take it to a bike shop and get it done.

Remember there is the whole weight of your foot and leg on that one point. So you want it to be pretty strong.

Other wise you want one of those screw crimps, like the electrical chocloate block but smaller and metal. It might not be pretty, but at least you can fix it on the side of the road if it comes undone.

Have you thought about getting a longer one, and cutting it down instead?

MR2s have stupidly long throttle cables.

If he cuts it down it will still need a end put on it.

Most cycle, and motor bike places can do them, or can put you on to the right people if they can't.
