4agte rebuild + more power?

Postby Zyros » Sun Sep 02, 2007 7:24 pm

Rebuilding my 20v 4age, its just a standard motor but 4agze pistons + rings which im getting through Rev-Head hopefully this week (as-per-email)

But, i dont want to just have a turbo slapped on the side and have that gaining all the power, what kind of others mod's could i do to gain power or torque even.

What kind of Cams could i use for more power etc..

manifold design is quite crucial.
standard 20v cams are about as much as youd want to go with up to a moderate turbo setup, as they are designed to rev like an n/a and push the powerband quite high into the rev range.

if using a BT head dont touch it.
if using a ST head get the exhaust ports opened up a bit.

my opinion is let the turbo do the work for you and keep the compression low. if you start trying to make it rev more than 8500 you will have a whole host of other issues. seeing as youve chosen your your pistons already you dont really get much choice :D definagtely use the 8.9's tho not the 8's as they are just as bulletproof and give a little better response and power.

also a single throttle setup is easier to tune than quads and will save you a lot of mucking around, the quads dont really make any more power either.

my advice is to keep it as simple as possible, then theres less room for shit to go wrong.

There are definatly ways to gain more power with head work .

i have all my engine work done at Carr engine services on carr rd mt roskill 6244406 ask for chris . he'll be able to sort you out

they can get cams reground to any profile to suit your particular setup , higher lift will help but wouldnt go much more on the duration

BT head port size will flow more than enough for standard valve size but there are still obvious benefits to be gained from having the ports cleaned up . blending the step above valve seat and removing any casting seams will always help increase flow .
NZ new AE82 GT sedan I TRD I was stolen in january still nothing recovered ! I TRD I is now a notchback ae85 with full ae86 running gear , high comp pistons , hks cams , etc
