Forging

Postby KinLoud » Mon Sep 10, 2007 5:20 pm

Got a bee in my bonnet...
Started a search for videos of things being forged.
I was hoping to find cranks, rods and pistons being forged but no joy yet.
Still, these clips might be of interest to people.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

A conrod in process: (powdered metal, not from bar stock)
http://www.metal-powder.net/images/busi ... iness4.jpg

Top one is how conrods are forged from bar stock, video shows what looks like small hand tools being forged.

That "press" on the axles vid... crazy, mega amount of force, bang bang.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Not quite all, but anything mass produced and performance orientated will be.
some low grade stuff (lawnmowers etc) use cast conrods.
And some high performance aftermarket conrods are machined from a solid lump of metal (billet)

Off topic but interesting:
how to turn a lump of metal into a v8 engine block
