Postby Ant » Tue Sep 11, 2007 12:26 am

I am wanting to know if there is any differences between a 3SGE gen 4 VVTI block and an earlyer gen 3sgte block??

This is because i want to know if i can mate a j160 to a 3sgte block to solve the bellousing problem when mounting a 3sgte in rwd configoration.

any what kind of figures can the 6 speed handle??

there is heaps of bell housings around that mate up behind a 3S for the W55-59 range of gearboxes, also a few T50 type boxes.
1S thru 4S, 1C, 2C & 3C all have the same bell housing pattern, you just need to get 10mm (IIRC) machined off the front face to get the pilot bearing right

there is some good discussion about the J160 boxes somewhere, people seems to reckon they are OK for upto 300HP at the wheel or there abouts. Depends what power and what kinda application you have in mind as to weather it would be suitable or not. I plan on putting a J160 box behind a 1JZ-GE VVTi engine in a year or two, have all the parts require to do it, just need a suitable vehicle to put it into and a cut and shunt job on the bell housing.

You will have to either use Altezza flywheel assembly or make custom one. Or you can modify the J160 bellhousing, as the 6speed input shaft is shorter. Will handle easy 300hp, not far off same gears as W55 actually. As always will depend on driving etc.

the 3sgte will be stock for a while so i guess the gearbox will handle that ok then. it will be going into a kp61 8) so it wont have much weight to push around.

So any idea if the 6 speed will bolt up to a 3sgte then... anyone acually done this...
