mr2 3sgte fuel pump ugrade!

Postby 92mr2paddy » Wed Sep 12, 2007 7:40 pm

ok i got a 3sgte in atm but its still running the NA 3sge fuel pump. im guna be doing some upgrading soon to ct20b, external, around 16/17psi boost so im pretty sure the fuel pump wont handle it, is there a straight replacement, like a whalbro or something?? any ideas on how to install it as i havent got into that part of the car yet! will i need a fuel regulator as well???

thanks

Pump:

Dont forget mounting kit:

I've got this one sitting on my desk here at work ready to go into my car :)
I'm guessing you are swaping over the turbo ecu as well? turbo injectors too?
I can find install instruction with a little search on google......

Regulator, hmmm. I don't know the difference in the base pressure between turbo and non-turbo, sorry.

Oh, what fuel rail are you running. 89-92 3sgte one is crap.

I installed the walbro kit from twosrus in my SW20, the hardest part is getting the tank off and then back on.

Once you got that out it's only a lazy afternoon's breezy work of slotting it in.

hey pureadrenalin

i got a whole 3sgte motor in there just havent done fuel pump yet, yes its running the standard 3sgte fuel rail,, but i dont think i need to upgrade that when upgrading to ct20b??

akane,, i have to take the tank out?? that would mean having to pull radiator pipes out???? how easy to fit pump back where standard one used to be?

edit: i just read all the info,, damn quite a JOB!

You need to drop the tank to put the pump in. You don't need to take the rad hoses out cos they run up teh side of the tank, but just have to remove the bracket holding the hand brake.

I gota 1jz pump here that will fit if you can't find a 3sgte one. The 1uz is same too.

Standard fule rail is fine. They would be better if it was top feed like the gen1 3sgte. You can mod the rail to double feed anyway.

If you have a pump, put it in while you doing teh motor swap. Otherwise worry about it later. The motor will run fine with the old NA pump.

Sure enough to bet an engine on it???

FYI they are not the same. 3S-GE pump is the same as the 4A-GE AW11 pump, 3S-GTE Pump is the same as used on the 2JZ-FE & 1UZ-FE powered Crown & Celsior and flows a lot more.

cheers tex, motor is already in, been in for ages and runs mint as with n/a pump, but due to upgrading to ct20b and upping boost i was just concerned about it leaning out and maybe misfiring or worse,

edit: what do they mean by 'dont' use bigger pump on standard fuel rail,, what problem could that cause??, its a gen2 rail

ill probly go with a whalbro like on the twosrus website with mounting kit , id rather overkill it now than to upgrade it again later
