4age tvis vs non-tvis question

Postby Mike- » Sat Sep 15, 2007 5:02 pm

i currently have a 4age bigport engine with a cut and shut manifold for rwd application, but im looking at getting a smallport engine for the power gain,

could i use the tvis cut and shut manifold on the smallport engine, or will just lose that power i wouldve gained?

any input appreciated

Iam using a rwd tvis manifold on my smallport head and using a adpter plate (t3) as the the port sizes are different, so you can do it, I also happen to have a smallport cut and shut manifold if you are interested...

Have a good read of this, its an excellent page

http://whyturbothat.com/project86%20.html

in short he gains heaps of power using the factory small port manifold cut and shut over the big port manifold with a adapter plate

Sorry where does it say that?

He still had the TVIS plate installed on the smallport head which is pointless and would have been causing flow problems.. all the comparisons he did, were all wrong. The smallport cut and shut manifold had a 60mm throttle body on it as well. So you cant go by any of his tests.

Obviously a smallport intake manifold weather it be "cut in shut" or not is going to flow better than a bigport manifold with an adpter plate on a smllport head, by how much tho, I would say very little gains are to be had.

i remember reading on either Phil Bradshaw or Bill Sherwoods page that a large T/B is a waste of time on a basically stock 4age as on the dyno it gained 1whp which was prob dyno error anyways. but agreed having Tvis would be a waste of time on a small port but i still think the original mani would flow heaps better that a big port with adapter
