GTT knocking noise from wheel column

Postby magnazan » Wed Sep 19, 2007 10:41 pm

Had a really strange thing happen with the GTT tonight, when pulling out either left or right (Not boosting hard just normal driving) there is a knocking noise that sounds like its coming from just below the steering column. It's the same sort of sound as if my alarm fob was swinging into the column but it's a consistent knocking until i straighten up. It's not super loud but i can hear it. Only does it occasionally as well, haven't tried to replicate it yet (will do tomorrow)

Anyone got any ideas?

It's an aftermarket 3 inch exhaust it maybe flexing when i trundle out of a corner. I really need to get a decent jack so i can get under the damn thing.

Update

Postby magnazan » Tue Sep 25, 2007 1:10 pm

The dinas in the garage currently getting the work done to fix the knocking noise.

Turns out the front of the car (After the guy test drove it) was spongy and the shocks do need replacing. The rear was tight and no issues (But getting them replaced anyway). All the bushings are fine. There was something bent on the rear at the back of the diff, which was causing the sway bar to knock against it (Don't knot the name of the part).

Hopefully should have it back in a few hours :)

Did you get your bushes replaced? I'm still getting the same sound but very randomly had it on the way down to hamilton when going through town. Smooth road, low speed and low revs. Still can't figure it out.

is the noise coming from the front or back? it didn't turn out to be my sway bar bushes, the bolt on the rh side of the stearing rack had lost its nut and was wobbling round everywhere that could be the same for you but doesnt sound like it if its coming up on smooth roads

My noise comes from under the dash/steering column, it's like someone tapping their knuckles on plastic. It's really really random though. When i had my shocks done i asked him to check all the bushes and he said they were fine. :?
