AE85 shock upgrade

Postby allsecretlove777 » Thu Sep 20, 2007 2:39 pm

On a ae85 with dobi lows (25% uprated, harder than stock springs) on the front and rear, what would be a good reccommended shock for street setup and occasional drift? If the springs lower the car only 30mm or so, is it a waste of time going for shorter stroke such as using ae92 shocks in the front and some sort of shorter stroke rears? or should I just get standard length ae86/ae85 shocks? I want a firmer ride, but still bearable to be driven around daily. Thanks for your suggestions!

i mixed and matched with dobis/jamex springs in my 85 and no matter what i did it was a pig to drift and the rear springs all need to be cut to match the front in height. got k sport coilovers and was 10000000% better

COILOVERS FTW!!!!!

120 a shock is dirt cheap for toyota products, and you wont find any other shock for that price, kyb from stocks are your next option then,

30mm is not much if the springs are quite sort then they should still be captive with standred shocks, you only really need short stroke if you are going to lower the car alot like i have and need to keep the springs captive,
the set up on my girls daily driven notch is 3inch lower then standred
TRD race 6kg front and 4kg rear
ae86 kyb gas shocks shortened about 3inches F&R (no need for spacer)
40mm RCA's front and soon to have traction brackets on the back,
standred ae86 sway bars
still keeping the springs captive, and rides really well, not much roll and ok over bumps, its still street able and can also be driven hard on the funny track,

my race car is
8kg front and 6.5kg rear
40mm RCA's
really big swap bars,
not really streetable unless you have a really fat arse for padding,
