help me build a shopping list

Postby gasman » Tue Oct 02, 2007 10:11 pm

so i saved up some cash now and its time to start ordering parts for my 4agte build during the summer holidays. what im going to do is a 20v bt head on a 8.9:1 4agze bottom end with shot peened rods with a link g3 with a 3 bar map sensor. would like to recon the ae101 gtz gear box so what will i need to order from mr revhead for the gear box and for the engine build?

i want to run a 3" stainless exhaust and 2.5" stainless intercooler piping. what grade stainless would be good for the application but still easy to weld?

From toyota,

Rod Bolts
Head Studs
Engine gasket set, (use a BT one them you get the head stuff,
as the bottom end is all the same anyway)
Pistons and Rings,
bearings if your replacing them.

so wouldnt it be better to use arp rodbolts and trd metal headgaskit?

If ya want,

thats what I run, All toyota stuff, and i run a 5 bar map sensor.

Three bar map sensor only handles 22 psi.

acl bearings for me, arp headstuds and rod bolts. std headgasket as well, and holding together with 25psi

as matt said, need 5bar map sensor to go over 22psi.

regards gearbox, pull it apart, i put new genuine toyota 2nd, 3rd, 4th synchros in mine, didn't need anything else

think my exhaust is 302 or 304 stainless,

good info there brendon.

my 4agte:

acl race mains and bigends,
arp head and rod bolts
.8mm trd metal HG

are you building the engine?

my builder told me that its common for rod caps to distort when pressing in arp rod bolts, hence the need for a crank grind which = oversize bearings, dont buy anything until your engine builder tells you he needs it, as you may need oversize bearings or pistons

if you're doing the gearbox get new synchros.it may pay to invest in tracking down the shorter gears that barry is using as 3rd gear is stupid long on the gtz gearboxes.

TRD 0.8mm headgaskets are really good, its just one less thing to worry about.

have you considered fabrication of an inlet collector?

consider your power level and whether you need a wanky clutch/PP now rather than later? allow $500-800 for that

i got an intake plenum made up similar to barry's and i got pretty much a brand new clutch from my old 20v engine, a exedy 4 puck one but im not too sure if it will work with the e58 box unless i run the 4age flywheel and get a new clutch plate that will fit the input shaft to the box.

how much are synchros worth? easy enough to install yourself?

i was going to build it my self but night get an engine builder to do it and just supply all the parts. how much roughly would this cost?

i think its worth it man, i wanted to do it myself, but theres just alot of little shit to get right, it would be better to learn to build a engine if it was a 4k or 4age, but a 200kw 4agte is probley not the best idea for your first.

ill tell you the costs when im finished,

my thoughts exactly :)

synchros were either 60 or 80 each i think, email warrick, it should be in that range give or take $15.
