4age going very slow

Postby rwd_mayhem » Fri Oct 05, 2007 9:31 am

so i was driving all fine no problems, all of a sudden (i cant quite pin point when it started) something went wrong. its just really slow, it seem to idle fine, just when i take off it takes ages to get up to speed, im revving it to 6/7 just to keep up with grandmas in altos!

what are some possible problems?

Is it bigport?

TVIS Solinoid could have died. Vaccum lines could have come off.

The first 2 places i would look.

Your mate's placed a block under your accelerator pedal?

Seriously though, is your engine getting enough fuel? Was it surging at any point? I've now had 2 fuel pumps die in my MR2s due to blocked pickup tubes.

yes it's a bigport bluetop tvis. and all the hoses to tvis are connected

its getting enough fuel, the plugs were all carboned up suggesting running too rich.
I used some sealwell cubes a while ago and now the water is all yuck, black, chunky and smells like fish lol. im going to put a radiator flush through it and replace the temp sensor, im thinking the water gunk has screwed the sensor maybe? causing it too run too rich?

Well what does it feel like when accelerating?

If you give it half or so gas does it go as well as if you give it full gas?
Does it feel like it boggs down when you put your foot down?

Is it jerky?

I had a problem with my car bogging down and running super rich when i put my foot all the way down. It was fine up in higher rpm like 6 - 8k.

I think it was my FPR causing the problems.

Cam timing - if the cambelt has lost a couple of teeth it can skip on the crank pulley or a cam wheel and so get out of time.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

they dont even need to loose teeth, if the belt looses a bit of tension they can jump teeth,

so today i played around a bit with it. put a brand new temp sensor in, tried swapping map sensor, fuel regulator and TPS. changing map sensor did nothing. changing fuel regulator did sweet $&#$% all. the TPS is making it worse now though, because i dont know how to put it in properly. still slow as.

if i do slowly put my foot down rather than just planting it it does make it a bit better but not much.

it goes all good in the higher revs though once tvis has kicked in.

youll need to set your tps correctly or it will run like a dog (not a greyhound either), then set the timing.

mine had the same problem your describing till i did this.

how do u set tps?
when i put it on where do the prongs line up to?
when i turn it should it turn the throttle body butterfly? or just spin easily?
