Fuel surge

Postby Wolf_Tm250 » Mon Oct 15, 2007 8:42 pm

What about opening the stock ST205 fuel tank, and make/modify the stock "fuel cell", instead of making a second fuel pump setup in a 2 liters external tank ?

Anyone already made it ?

TIA.

Not particulary on your model,

but we run an internal surge tank on the focus race car,

same setup as a normal surge tank but is inside the main tank.

You still need another pump to fill the surge tank though,
( or if you use enough fuel like the focus you need 3 )

Problem you may have is getting someone keen enough to weld a tank that has had fuel in it already.

i had no problems welding my fuel tank the other week to replace the fuel pickup and pump for a RB one, just flush the tank with water twice and throw a big match in to burn off any fumes. it was ok to weld and grind, i had a real long think about making a internal surge tank, problem was i cant find a internal low pressure pump only could find external pumps,

i was thinking if it was a cylinder(surge tank) welded to the base of the tank with no lid and a internal low pump filling the cylinder and another internal high pump. i was thinking of this idea for a few reasons

1, that would keep buzzing noise down
2, with no lid on cylinder any over flow would just trickle down back to tank and weld,
3, less lines running all over the place
down side would be i'd have to cut a really big hole to fit the whole unit into the tank

Thanks for the advices!

Have you ever used that special foam for filling tanks?
