HT18 need water?

Hey

I have a ht18/T3 Hybred turbo and the turbo has the usual oil and water feeds.

Thing is i have seen lots of people who don't run water to this turbo, just oil.

What are the drawbacks of not running water apart from a warmer turbo?
Because quite a few factory turbos dont need water and some of the HT18s didnt.

If it's got water lines, then plumb them up is how feel about it.
The water helps to stop the oil getting too hot. I'ts better for the core of the turbo.

just alway run good synthetic oil to look after the turbo's bearings and you'll be sweet. Dino oil aint so good at handling that kinda heat

hmm, my thoughts too.

It may not need it, but they've probably been put there for a reason, and usually longevity is the reason for most things put into cars that seem un-necessary.

Well it's not difficult to hook up the water lines. Seeing as you would have already done the oil feed and oil return along with all the other plumbing involved with turbocharging, so why not hook up the water lines?

Water lines are actualy a lot harder.

If i take it from the water going in the block id have to tee it off the main water line, then tee it back in somewhere. There needs to be enough headloss accross these to points or ill get crazy crap like no flow, too much flow, flow going the wrong way or something.



Oil lines are easier.

Yeah, ezy10s was looking at your old car and it didnt have the waterlines, hence me asking.

Thanks for the advice, ill look at hooking up the water lines from the cold start stuff at the throttle body, just means i'll need to run water lines accross the engine to above the exhaust manifold.

I'm using the same turbo and will be tapping into the same place for the water lines (cold start).

All the Turbo rebuilders I've talked to say not to use synthetic oil,
as it does not absorb the heat enough.
