Ae101 levin S/S Front spring removal

Postby big-ben-007 » Mon Nov 05, 2007 8:33 pm

As the title suggests I need help removing the spring from my front shocks in my AE101 Levin S/S (gtz if it matters)

This time I cannot loosen the nut at the top hat while the hat is still bolted in, due to the fact it turns the inner shaft even while the top hat is still bolted in, unlike the rear struts

So I took the strut out, with problems (see my tech post below  ), and now there is nowhere to get vice-grips onto to stop the shaft from moving, or anwhere at the thread to stop it from turning

So my dillema is what the F%#K is going on here, I am a toyota n00b , (never had this much trouble with my skyline suspension), so please somebody help me as to how to get the spring out

Thanks

hey Ben, Im the guy who sold you the GTZ, hows it been going??

just vice grip the shock through the spring, make sure you do it at the top so if you damage the chrome it wont matter. Rattle gun makes the job heaps easier but you can do it with a tube socket and ratchit.

if you have any problems bring the whole lot into work and ill chuck your new springs in 4 u :P

to be honest i've done what you are trying before a few times (swap springs)

take up True-No-Turbo's offer and take the springs / shocks into his work, you'll be on your way in 10 minutes and know its all done up tight :)
