Turbo AE92 FXGT exhaust.

Postby Crampy » Fri Nov 09, 2007 6:53 pm

I have finally done some work on my project car and am close to needing the exhaust done.

I've seen on Trademe a muffler brand Power Pro. Are these any good?

I've done a search and see that heaps of people say not to use RPS Mufflers, but there are also a lot of people that do use them on here (what's with that???)

So, going from the turbo back, I was thinking a 2.5 inch system, with one resonator in the middle and the muffler on the back. Thinking about using one of those Power Pro Dumpy mufflers (depending on what they're like)

That shouldn't be too loud I'm guessing, as the turbo will act a muffler anyway.

Any thoughts?

You do get what you pay for. The packing in the cheap mufflers aint as good.
Ive got a 2 1/2" flexi back system with a long resonator (without the expansion chamber) and a dytech 3" muffler on my gsr.
Was a little bit drony when I got it but now that its worn in its reasonably quiet.

get a generic muffler from the shop that builds your exhaust and paint it black.
it won't look as pretty but they often sound better than the shiny fartcans that are so common now. they actually muffle the sound nicely too, often gives a nice growly tone to the exhaust rather than drone and bark of a poor muffler.

other than that, stick to a reputable brand.

Cheers guys.
Will look into it a bit more. Got my intercooler piping sorted today, so need to mount the intercooler and plumb it up. That and a few other things and it'll be ready to go to the Exhaust shop.

What do you guys think about Al's mufflers off Wairau Road? I got them to do the sytem on my AE111 BZ-G and was good as.
Any other experiences with them, good or bad?

Just dont get a loud system and put a silencer in it. Would probably flow worse than the standard exhaust

Should I go with 2.5 inch then, or would it be better to go 2 1/4?
It's not going to be a power crazy monster, only going to run low boost and an absolute max or 150Kw.

Just been looking at your CarDomain write up:

"Full Stainless Exhaust system, 3" Flexi, no resonators just a cannon style muffler."

That'll be why it's nice and loud hehehe.
I quite like the look of the Power Pro Dumpy, so might go with that.
Will see how it sounds with one resonator, if too loud will just get another one put in.

Well, still got a bit to do. It'll be good when it has the intercooler and exhaust on it. Got to do battery and wire up my MSD stuff and other things like that. Knowing me, it still wont be finished this side of Christmas
