1990 CElica st185 gt4 Gearbox Crunch sound !help!

when ever i change gears from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd it makes this crunching sound how do i fix it? and how much would it cost?

Change the oil in the box... try something like Redline.

other option is changing the gearbox and even rebuilding.

other than them have you checked the fluid levels in the reservoir? no leaks or anything? might not be disengaging and all that jazz

and... change (or at least bleed) clutch fluid, you'd be surprised at the difference that made in my MR2.

The noise will be the synchros. It happens in almost every toyota of that era (unless your lucky like me, and have a mint rebuilt one :wink:)

Some good oil will help, but the only way to get rid of it completely is new synchros, or a new box (but are hard to find mint). You might find it will go away completely with good oil if its not a bad crunch, they only go downhill after that :cry:

Depends how much you can do yourself? Just replacing the synchros isnt much doing it yourself, but through a shop is gets pricey as its a pretty labour intensive job.
