oil drainage

didnt know where to put this, and couldnt find anyting,
i'm bout to drain engine and trans oil, etc

What would be my best household item for catching the spill?
And where in auckland do i dispose of it?

A plastic container with a screw on lid, old oil containers are perfect. You'll need something around 5L to be safe for engine oil, and a couple of litres for trans. I usually keep the old stuff in the shed till the hazmobile truck is in the neighbourhood, then take it to them.

does it just sorta dribble out in a consistant 'jet' or does it go everywhich way? Reason i ask is i had thought a screw top lid bottle wouldnt be wide enough to catch it.

I understand storing it in the bottles for disposal tho

use a funnel, make sure the hole in the bottom of the funnel is at least the same size as the oil drain hole, or you might have an issue. it will come out in a pretty steady flow, it won't spray everywhere, just keep watching it cos near the end it might randomly change direction a little.

go to super cheap and grab an oil change kit, comes with oil drain tray, a funnel and a oil filter wrench.

then you sit the tray under the sump bolt as you undo it and it will all drain into it. it has a round lip on the side to make for easy pouring into an old oil container.

cut the side off an old oil container, drain into that. Then poor that into another old oil container.
