Postby 79rolla » Sun Nov 25, 2007 1:19 pm

ok my cars off the road now untill i put my new motor in.. im hopfuly also getting new wheels and its gonna need a cert anyway so i want to do some suspention work while its off the road and im spending time and money

anyway its a ke30 witk dx struts in the front appaerently, bog stock apart from that
i am wanting new springs for front
new shocks all around
and hopfuly add a leaf in the back and get them reset
debating weather to put a rear sway bar in
will probly put double sway bars in front

also wanting to upgrade front breaks if not to much stufing round

question is
what brands of springs and shocks should i use? dont want too low and not to hard but still want firm with a bit of travel (live on ruril road)

what are my options for breaks? maby diferent struts??

and im not trying to spend megga $$ atm, dont need anything too flash

your options are only limited by your wallet for anything like this.

a good option would be to replace discs and pads for brakes, uprated pads will help a bit. changing brake setup will cost more $$ and effort.

cobra springs for front perhaps (custom)

toyota shocks all round will be all good, going for stiffer KYBs or similar could be another option.

considering the age of your current parts (at a guess very old) replacing them all with new factory parts will be a good upgrade option. Will be cheapest option. Going for aftermarket parts for everything will end up being costly.

so depends what you plan of using the car for and your budget.

my dad also is sugesting corona struts for better breaks, are the suspention options better or worse with them??
he also has somthing against me getting harder/newer springs.. he thinks with new shocks and better sway bar/s it would drive mint.. but i dont think ill be sticking with my almost 30 year old spring for some reason... :?

of course the bigger the brakes the better the will usually work.....

just have to weight up the extra hassle / $$$ involved to change to another brake setup compared to uprating the brakes you already have.

I know of race cars that use standard struts but have uprated pads and slotted rotors etc.... you can get race pads made to suit any car.

food for thought

haha my current breaks are absolute shit
theyr small and im pritty sure there glazed
just trying to see what options there is for upgrading everything while its getting certed coz i dont relly want to put alot of work into changing things later on and having to get it certrd again
dont mind changing struts aslong as its not gonna take tooo much work or much modifiation.
struts will be coming out anyway for shocks at verry least so dont mind putting different ones back in

struts and brakes from a larger and/or high performance model would be a good start.

if you have KE70 struts, you can fit AE86 springs and shocks. wouldnt the KE70 brakes be larger than stock KE30?

if you need to upgrade the struts, look for things like rwd corona, carina, celica. you will need to do some research into steering arms and ball joint sizes to make sure it all fits. also note the size of the top of the strut, make sure it will suit the KE30 tophat (i think theres only like 2 sizes)

A rear sway bar would be a good thing, im so glad i put one on the wagon!
