jza70 1jz question

Postby MRDRFT » Tue Dec 18, 2007 9:12 pm

my supra is a 92 jza70.
just want to no why the cooling fan is hydrolic?(sorry about spelling)
it has its own little coller and pump and fluid bottle?is it easy to take it out or is it not worth the hassel?im not worried about the fan as such, just the big long cooler for it as it is in the way of geting my intercooler in there.will the fan work allright without the cooler?

thanks

It really needs the cooler!! If it is getting in the way your not installing your intercooler properly.

If you want to remove it you have to do it properly which means replacing the whole pump with a std non hydro pump.

yeah thats what you should do if you have to.. i used a 2JZGTE water pump in mine. the cooler lines are up the top and are above / behind the bumper iron arent they? :o

looks to be too much work as it has a pump and stuff on the motor and the pump not belt driven.

yeah, you'll need to replace that pump at some stage anyway, since its the waterpump, and when you go to get a new one, and they tell you its $1500, you probably won't be wanting one anymore. lucky for us there is an alternative, which requires changing to electric fans, but easily works out cheaper, by miles.

There are lines going to the waterpump. Your waterpump has the 1 bolt pulley, the waterpump for JZ powered cars without the hydraulic fan are 4 bolt pulley.

Haha, nah it's not powered by water, there's an attachment on the waterpump that drives the hydraulic fluid.

I saw this system on a Windom, and thought: what a stupid system, why not just have electric fan - more efficient, cheaper, less stress on water pump...
Sometimes it seems that engineers who come up with stuff like that, are doing just for fun....

From what I gather the hydro ones were used when they ran out of room for a belt driven setup. From my readings I gather they push out a considerable amount of air over a belt or electric system

Not to mention they're infinitely variable in speed, I'll take my Hydraulic fan over an electric or clutched fan any day.

The pumps have come down in price a bit now too, around $700 or lower from what I remember.
