Have searched thoroughly but cannot find what I'm after.
My basic question is how many different types of 1JZ mechanical (ie Non hydro fan) pumps are there? Do they differ between GE and GTE engines - I wouldn't have thought so but here's my story:
A few weeks ago I did a waterpump on JZZ30 1JZGTE motor. Ended up with GMB pump as that's all I could track down that day. Went on fine, few slight differences like a threaded hole where my Toyota pump had blank, small pipe drain on the bottom instead of the cast in drain on the old one.
This weekend get into a JZX100 with VVTi 1JZGE, they've given him the same GMB pump (JZX uses that threaded hole). Anyway after an ar$hole of a crank pulley/HB, we replace stuffed frost plug, replace the thermostat (which somebody has cut the thermostat bits out of?) and then reassemble. All fine up until we (9pm by now) go to put the waterpump pulley and mech fan back on. Holes do not line up with pump, approx 10mm on the diagonal measurement. Much swearing. Give go inside and drink.
So is there a different pump for VVti 1JZ with a slightly different pulley bolt pattern? Or for GTE vs GE? Why the hell would they even do that everything else on the pump appears exactly the same?
