help please : brakes

Postby LEV_101 » Sun Jan 13, 2008 7:50 pm

hey guys,

was fitting some trd rotors on the altezza and one of the rotors was really stuck :S the other one was sweet and easy to take off. so i had to use force and hammer etc to remove the disc ( its for the rear so thats why it was stuck )

after about 30 mins of hard work i got it off and now the drum brake pad is very loose and the spring holding it is now hitting the stud when the it rotates.

did i bend or have broken the pin/clip thingy ?

Image

thanks

Push the shoe back in so you can get the clip, spring and cap out and see if any damage has been done. Probably just pulled it right through. Get it out and have a look first

so you tried to remove the rotor with the handbrake on? If so, and you bashed it off, you could've damaged the shoe's or whatever holds them in place

So you didn't slacken off the drum brake adjusters before trying to remove the rotor/drum and then you beat the crap out of it

If there's on thing I've learned over the years it's that if you have to use brute force and ignorance to remove/ fit a part then you're probably doing it wrong. So at that point it's best to take a close look and see why it's not coming apart easily

Doesn't look like you've broken anything too badly, and even if the pin is slightly bent then it should be ok if you straighten it out.

Just remember to back off the adjusters before you fit the new rotors/drums and the adjust them up after you've installed them. There should be a hole in the rotor that allows you to reach the adjuster wheel.
