How to install air horn as seperate horn?

Postby Bling » Tue Jan 15, 2008 3:09 pm

I have air horns which I want to install in my car, however I don't want it linked to the main horn as I want the install to be simple. I also don't want to use the air horns as my primary horn, only when people really piss me off will the come in to play

so can someone please let me know how i can wire the below setup to exclude the existing horn.

I will just install a switch in the cabin that will run the air horn when needed.

image is what came with air horns (although it wasn't as awesome as this one) so would be great if someone can tell me what to wire where , cheers

its probably simple as, but i'd rather ask for advice now rather than how to test for a fried ECU etc if I stuff it up

Thats how Ive done it before, except the horn has the -ve switched not the positive line :P

Find the horn wire under the dash, tap your switch in there, and run you second wire into the engine bay.

I cant remember the pin outs of a relay off the top of my head, just go get one that has it on it...

in your diagram though, connect 86 to your switch, and 85 to a 1/2 Amp fuse on the +ve line.

Remember Airhorns tend to suck alot of current when in use, so make your wires short an fat :P

why not just find an accessory wire under the dash that is on key switch supply. and leave your factory horn completely out of the equation??
not hard to find just use a multi meter or a test light.

except for the fact that you generally spend way to long trying to find a button that is not the horn when you want the horn..

If your real crazy you can have horn, air horn or both going at the same time.. ahhh good times in my old car + Mt. Vic tunnel
