AW11 / AE92 Gearbox

Postby Wanabee Kiwi » Sun Jan 20, 2008 12:22 pm

Hey all,

done a couple of searches and not found a clear answer.

Does a AE92 manual gearbox work in an AW11. Or do you have to have an AW11 box because of the linkages?

Im slightly confused, i know the AW11 box' are supposed to be better but i have not seen a single one for sale, whilst in the mean time we have a 4AGZE box from an AE92 sitting in the garage.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes it will work ONLY IF you swap the linkages. Someone should be able to tell you how to do it. Had a look on clubaw?

If you already have a 4agze aw11 disregard everything below except for drilling for the new shifter.

First you need the correct bell housing to bolt a supercharger motor to a 4age. You also need the correct clutch/fly wheel assembly as they are different.

You need to have a starter to fit the 4agze flywheel, you also need to make sure your 4age doesnt foul the new starter position (some have external oil drain, however, if its the standard aw11 4age then thats unlikely).

I have never done the conversion on a supercharger box however it is likely you will need to drill a hole and bore it to fit the aw11 shifter and oil seal. You will then need a flange to cover where the old shifter was.

Then its unlikely your standard aw11 shafts will fit in your 4agze gearbox. You will need different shafts.

try www.clubaw.co.nz for buying a gearbox.

Can you give us some more details about what your trying to do and the currect spec of the car.

Cheers

Trying to build a 200bhp track / fast road supercharged weekend toy.

The plan is to use a 20v head on a 7 rib block, SC14 supercharger and whatever else is needed to achieve this.

At the moment the car is just a standard auto aw11 with a red-top motor in it.

Are you saying that a AW11 GZE gearbox is better than a AE92 GZE Gearbox? If yes, what makes the AW11 ones better (better ratios, stronger,....)?

Interested as I could do with better ratios in my GZE.

the one i sold you has same size gears as the aw11 ones, they are slightly different ratios, talk to bazda on that issue.

aw11 gze box to ae92 is easy as swapping linkages and make a bung,

other way round need to swap bellhousings

Heres a good writeup of converting a C56 from a ae11 to AW11 format, with pictures. Not 100% on whether E series box will be different. Theres no problem with it as long as you drill the hole in the right spot.

Have also heard that AW11 GZE (E51) boxes are stronger then the AE92 / AE101 (E54?) but haven't had a chance to test this theory. Although BAZDA is using an AW11 box behind his 7AGTE I think.
