16v 4age head on a 7afe

Postby tenyearguarantee » Sat Jan 26, 2008 5:23 pm

could have my hands on a 7afe powered caldina. Just wondering whether it would be worth the trouble sticking a 4age head on it and getting some twin cam action.

a 7afe is already twin cam.
It just has the second cam running off a gear on the first camshaft as opposed to having its own pulley on the cambelt.

The F type toyota head has a much narrower valve angle compared to the G type head.

I probably wouldn't bother with a 16v head. Although you would see some power gains a 20v head would be better(and a turbo lol)

7age, is a very very awsome engine man. Nick Teebon the top toyota drifter this past year uses a 7afe with a 16 valve 4age head on it running quad throttle bodies etc etc.

7age is good for 150+ hp with standard 4age bits, and the torque comes on at 2500 rpm instead of 6000 like a 4age.

I cant say enough good things about the 7age haha.

now does the fact that the caldina is auto make a difference? I mean will i notice much more pull with an auto box behind it?

Hell yea man of course you will. Autos arnt as bad as people make them out to be. If you treat it well, and maintain it they can be very responsive.

Also use 4age high compression pistons if your going to bother doing the conversion, raising the compression ratio will give you more balls (but you wont be able to run 91 anymore).

There are a couple of modifications that you will need to do, getting a longer cam belt, and modifying the water pump will have to be done. If your unlucky caue of the raised height of the 7a vs 4a you will need to change your exhaust. But in your case your going to need to swap the extractors over anyways.
