Clutch Change, Help needed urgently

Postby Flunk » Sun Jan 27, 2008 1:07 pm

mmkai so i need to get my car back on the road today/tonight...

Car in question is an ae111 levin 4age blacktop 6spd...

have the gearbox/diff etc out.. old clutch off... got a new clutch kit.. starting to put it back together, but im not 100% sure how it goes back together as theres no instructions, and i cant find a servicve manual.

At this stage, i put the clucth plate in, and started to bolt the cover up, have the spigot pretty close to centre i think.. but, the clutch plate is sandwiched in between the cover & flywheel so tight, that it wont move at all after the bolts are done up, im wondering if this is normal until its been run in, or if this is wrong? my first ever clutch change on this car, so yeah...

Thanks
Brad.

the clutch will be tight between the flywheel and pressure plate but before you fully tighten up the bolts make sure the clutch is align properly. If you get stuck give me apm and i may be able to come around and show you

Yeah its pretty well lined up, just wanted to make sure it was ok if it was tight and not moving.

its supposed to be tight and not moving.
just make sure its pretty close to the centre, will be easy to tell as the gearbox will be difficult to get on if its far off. you can see the edge of the clutch so just look around the different sides to check the clutch is evenly spaced

go to supercheap and get a clutch alignment tool, they are like $4
just jam it in the flywheel and it centers the clutch plate,
if you dont get it perfect gear box wont line up or go in,

the clutch plate shouldnt be able to move when the bolts are done up, if it does something is wrong

standard clutchs are probly the best all round clutch you can get for a near standard 20 valve or 4agze.

my old standard 4agze clutch was indestructible with 2.5 times the standard power output.

The clutch plate should be held REAL tight between the flywheel and pressure plate as this is what transfers power from the engine to the gear box.

Get a clutch alignment tool, this will keep the clutch plate in the middle of the pressure plate when bolting it onto the flywheel.

When I did my clutch about a month ago, was my first time aswell, just asked heaps of question before i did it, and was a piece of cake. Also replaced the rear main seal when I had the flywheel off to get it machined. Moved house and garage floor is still clean :)
