4AGE + W58 issues?

Postby regamaster » Thu Jan 31, 2008 12:05 am

on behalf of a mate with a project:

I have a 4age black top turbo in a rwd set up and im just sussing out some driveline issues. I am planing on puting a w58 gearbox onto the back of the 4 age. I have the bellhousing all sorted out im just stuck on the mater of the clutch and fly wheel.

Im wondering who has done this before and what friction plate fly wheel and pressure plate they are using. because the w input shaft is diferent to a t50 so a t50 friction plate wont fit but the w series friction plate is 238mm and the 4age flywheel is only 220. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks all!

if you get the early 4agze (aw11) flywheel which from memory is 325mm friction surface, and the clutch/pressure plate out of the same car it fits the w58 spline.

we just used the ae101 4agze flywheel and clutch setup on the 16v and w57, i imagine the blacktop flywheel bolt pattern is the same

Yeah but problem is you can't ( or no-one seems to be able to find )
get a standard clutch plate that fits the 20V flywheel and the input shaft size of the W57, which is the same as the GZE's.

get one custom made. will cost bugger all more than a standard one.

have to do this when doing a (ae85) 4age conversion and keeping the K50 etc

just say i want the 4AGZE 232mmm (or whatever it is) diameter plate with the W58 spline and a 4agze cover.

easy pesy

Blacktop should be about 215mm from memory? Anyways there is a 212mm early ZE friction plate that will work, and also a Liteace 215mm friction plate that is same spline as ZE/W58. Unless you got a real good upgraded cover for the Blacktop flywheel, you might want to swap to the whole ZE fly/clutch set up- its a very hard setup to beat.
Good luck!
