Depends where you turbo sits really. Take the sump off, drill a hole and weld a bit of pipe where you want the return hose to go in. No real fitting as such, just get some high temp oil resistant hose and a couple of hose clamps

also interested in this, shouldnt it be higher on the sump, so it actually drains?

yep fit as high as possible to the sump. when we put mine in, we welded a threaded fitting to the side of the sump then put the brass oil fitting into that. can get pics if you want

use at least 5/8 fittings and hoses, the bigger the better, it cannot be restrictive, i usually weld a 45 or 90' bend into the sump in line with the turbo drain and just use hose and clamps

It doesnt matter if your turbo is mounted quite high as it can drain quite freely, if you look at some standard turbo setups on 4x4s etc, the drains are actually quite low in the sump, some are actually below the sump centreline, but then again the turbos are mounted very high up!!

But yeah, if you have a low mounted turbo which is common on FWD setups it needs to as high as possible because there is way less area between turbo & oil sitting in the sump, therefore it wont drain quick enough and oil will backfill. I welded the top of the drain tube approx 15mm from the top of the sump and Ive been told its still too low!!!!

I wouldnt have thought it would matter where on the sump the oil was mounted anyways as the oil pressure (or vacuum) from the pump circulating the oil would 'suck' the oil out of the turbo anyways.

You only need to leave your oil pressure sensor out of your block to see how much oil comes out at idle, so i would imagine at around 2 - 3k rpm there would be a lot of oil flowing around.

Nah, it does matter.

If its not in a good place the turbo seals will leak and cause smoke/damage to turbo before the oil is forced/sucked into the sump by the oil system

it has to be able to drain out of the hose as freely as possible, if it can't it will cause all sorts of problems. its only gravity drained so the slightest thing can block it.

this is my setup - its about as close to the top of the sump as I could get.
