ae92 struts into ee90

Postby GDII » Fri Feb 01, 2008 10:23 am

Would ae92 struts fit into an ee90? And would I be able to use the rear disc brake setup in place of the drums?

front ae92 and ee90 are exactly the same, bar for the stiffer shocks on the ae92 GTI. / FX

So if I got new front shock inserts they would fit and make the car feel better. Mind you all four of my shocks have had it. And get the springs off the levin, would that stiffen it up?

On the rear you got to replace the whole strut, so getting new shocks/struts with levin springs from the crashed one would work?

wouldnt bank on the shocks/inserts being the same tube diameter, (gt is 50ish mm for memory). Think i remember there was a 40ish mm shock for the non-gt models?... So struts will swap over, sure, but you *might* not get gt inserts to fit into your ee90 struts. Remember the gt struts are designed to work with the gt springs, wont necessarily ride/handle better using gt dampers with stock ee90 springs, incase thats what you were planning.

yea gmacrae u got it right, if u wanted the best upgrade swap the whole GT strut and spring over then u can always upgrade the insert lata etc . ive done struts a million times on my old GT sedan, easy as which is good. just b careful wen u put the bottom two strut bolts bak in as u can alter the camber a bit, i noticed slighty.

struts

Postby docTRD » Sat Feb 02, 2008 10:28 am

yea its only the front ones man, when u have the strut secured by the top hat and the 3 12mm nuts u can wiggle the strut a little while u put the 2 strut bolts in, if want camber u just pull the strut towards u then do up the bolts tight which then alters the camber, i guess the ae92 struts and hubs are slotted differently which allows this :p

Im going to go look at the car today. I have positive camber atm with the GTT springs in. Ill take the springs too because the ee90 ones are very soft.
I can get four new shocks for the ee90 struts for $280. Inserts front and whole strut back.
I am not looking for best upgrade. Just something to improve the stability of the car. I drive at 100kph on the motorway and can't keep it driving straight. A small gust and it pushes me all over the place.

Thanks for your input. Been helpful so far.
