sw20 rough idle then cut out

Postby FXGTV » Sat Feb 09, 2008 8:32 pm

I just finished installing a boost gauge and had everything running fine with the stock air-box off, but connected up. When I put the air box back together and put it all back to 'normal' I started the car and it idled rough for about 5 seconds then switched off.

This is what happened when I tested the boost gauge, but with the air box off. I resolved this at the time by simply putting the hose going to the turbo back into the air box. It seems strange that with everything put back properly, it splutters and wont idle.

Thanks in advance :)

I found this posted online. I did unwittingly remove that plug it mentions, instead of the wire pin...

I think it is not a problem to do routine maintenance ourselves. My problem
was I made a mistake. To recap the mistake: there is a small bundle of
wires that plugs into the air-flow meter on the top of the air cleaner.
This bundle unplugs from a connector on the meter. Due to brain fade, I
did not notice that it unplugs, and I started to remove the entire connector
from the meter. DO NOT DO THAT! That action upsets the alignment of
internal parts in hte electro-mechanical portion of the meter, which cannot
be reset/repaired without knowledge of the internals of the meter. That
action also tears the foil that connects the pins to the circuit board. In
other words, it's broken.

Now what?

Yeah - i managed to rangi one from a v6 windom. Its the same sized housing and gate etc, but its running a little rough. At least its running though! Im trying to track down a 3sgte one, and am not going to drive much using the windom afm. How bad is it for the car engine to use this afm?

On the plus side my boost gauge is working. Boost seems fine in 1st and 2nd - going to 10psi. But in 3rd, 4th and 5th the boost levls go past 15psi easily. Ive wound my bleed tap style boost controller all the way down but its doing nothing to stop this overboosting. I cant work out how else to stop it. Ideas anyone?

if you have access to another meter just borrow that, and with opening your old one and readjusting while comparing the specs (say certain % open, and 100% open) you could fiddle our old one to get to the same spec. But obviously if you are not careful it is very easy to $&#$% up.
