ST195 and Electrical: Tail Lights and Park Lights Dead

Postby BlakJak » Mon Feb 11, 2008 10:26 pm

Tonight noticed that my Tail and Park lights are dead.
I checked one of my tail light bulbs to be sure and the bulbs are definately fine.

Damned if I can find a fuse that appears to be for those lights, though!

Theres the main fusebox next to the airbox which has a collection of fuses (hazard, horn, head L, head R, rad A, and a few others... in particular 'rad A' is not something I recognise (radio?) and a couple of others are also obvious ('dome').

I checked the ones I recognise and all have continuity.
Oddly enough ive never had to look for a fuse related fault before in this vehicle, and it doesn't appear to have a fusebox in the drivers side footwell area. So now i'm stumped.

Anyone got any clues? Gotta have another poke during daylight where I can actually see what i'm doing...

Rad A= radiator fan me thinks. There will be one drivers side somewhere, possibly behind a coin pocket etc on the pannel under the steering wheel.

will be a fuse,

pull out the wee coin tray thing under the steering column,
the fuses may be in there,

The WILL be fuses in the cabin somewhere, and the fuse for those lights is not normally an underbonnet fuse.

Yeah, when I was a little more awake I did end up finding them...

Theres a little fold up compartment on the right side of the kickpanel, pulled that extra hard and it revealed the fusebox behind it. I actually suspected it was there last night but was too tired to put 2 and 2 together and actually give it a yank...

So I found a 10A Mini blade fuse is blown and will pick up a new one tonight.
Interesting that I tried two garages and neither had them right ones... i'll have to go find an auto store..

Thanks for your help guys. They could've at least labelled things abit clearer eh!!

As an aside have you installed an aftermarket stereo in your car? If you have you may want to check the illumination connection on the back of it. I've had it not connected once and it kept blowing fuses and I had no rear lights (when I braked I did) and no illumination on my dash.
Brute force and ignorance always prevails.

Failure comes from too little brute force, or too little ignorance.

Dash lights still worked.
I had an aftermarket stereo commercially fitted to my Caldy not long after I bought it (3.5 years ago) - it seems to be working normally (and was even when the fuse was blown) so can only assume its on a different power circuit.

Given it's the first fuse i've had to replace since I got the car, I can live with it. ;-)
