3SGTE Car Battery

Postby BZG Wagon » Fri Mar 07, 2008 11:24 am

Any recommendations?

I've rung around a few places with varying responses. A few retailers have suggested putting in a comparatively small battery when compared to what's currently in the car.

It's for my 97 Caldina GTT.

Do you have any sounds/TVs/Microwave/Winches(:D)?
If not just go with NS40/70 size, it should cost you under $100.
If you need a lot of battery power then you could spend from $100+.
I would recommend Exide Orbital for heavy loads but they are not cheap at all (under $500).

I don't have anything out of the ordinary running from it, but the car doesn't get used during the week (sometimes it can be left for up to two weeks without running) and when I take it on holiday I sometimes run the laptop off the inverter, pump up airbed, run a small TV off it etc.

I figured with it often sitting for a while (alarmed) something a bit more heavy duty would be appropriate.

My GF's Mazda Familia battery died so I figured my GTT battery can go in her car & I'll use it as an excuse for a new one as it looks like a factory Japanese battery (with Nissan Motor Co. written on the sticker :D). Its white on all sides, semi see through & black on the top.

Like to see you buy an NS70 for under $100.
NS70 is the battery that goes in a diesil hilux.

if the car sits like you say, then go for a slightly larger one than the normal small jap type, say 128 size rather than a N310 or a 125/126

just be aware of
A: if they are reconditioned rather than new

B: warranty periods - cheapies usually have only 6 months on them rather than 2-3 yrs for a good exide/champion type one

C: has a Suitable CCA range for your vehicle ..
( cold cranking amps )

All fairly obvious points but not always to the easily persuaded.

whats the cars intention , a weekend roller , or fun ? If fun , you could up the stakes and get a compact gel type battery to put in the engine bay to give more piping for FMIC pipes or straight intake pipes .. But expect to pay double that for say a oddessy or a Optima gel battery

I bought a Exide/Champion X60CP, great fit, plenty of power and maintenance free with a 3 year warranty. $140 from REPCO.

Cheers Mark.

A mate of mine gave me a fairly new battery for the my girlfriends car so looks like we wont be needing a new one anymore.

Cheers for all the advice guys! Out of interest - what should the CCA rating be on a car like a GTT?
