Postby MRDRFT » Sat Mar 08, 2008 8:05 pm

ok,i have just blowen up my W57,i have brought a W58 with the remote shifter and i need to change to rear shifter,
i have got the rear cover off and shifter ect off but the hole in the selector shaft is in a different place to my rear shifter.i went to swap them over and my w57 is wider so it cant change the gear.do i have to change all the seclectors over to the w57 ones?how much of a mission is this?

and on a side note how much is a remote shifter and tail housing worth out of a jza80 supra?

You need to remove the rear housing to the gearbox (split it in two) and swap the rear housings over along with the actual selector rod.

Its not as easy to swap shifter setups around as people think/makeout.

On the other hand, I'll happily take the remote shifter gearbox off your hands as I want one for the race car :D

Can swap you a rear shifter w55.

must unbolt the rear housing to do so thou

i tryed to swap the selsctor rod but the bit on the end that slips between the gear prongs is to big on the w57 and just gets locked in netural.

you have to grind it down a bit, you mean the 'fork' end on the end of the selector shaft that moves the gearset?

its fine, i have a w58 remote shift assembly here that im about to fit to my w57, will all work fine, just have to trim down that one part and weld the lugs onto the gearbox,

the only other way is to use the original selector shaft and have the hole that holds the selector cup on rerilled and tapped to sit in the correct position.
