Adapting Loom ?

Postby TRD_ZERO » Wed Mar 12, 2008 8:48 pm

OK ive got a turbo engine in the build and thinking about running the 16v head to get the whole thing going and so on. Now im wanting to know about the loom side of things. Adapting the 4agze loom to my bzg, easy job? What about the speedo sensor do i just use a ae101 gtz loom as ae92's have mech senders?

No no id run a gze ecu but im guessing the ecu wont just plug into the loom under the dash in my ae111.

less of a headache to go for a standalone ecu, link, microtech etc.

if you have to start paying a sparky to make it work make sure you have deep pockets

Yeah i know about the stand alone but i didnt think it should be that hard fitting the gze loom into my ae111 then i can just plug in the gze ecu and drive away. Instead of installing a stand alone ecu then still having to send it away to get tuned. Yeah i know id get alot more power from the stand alone but it will cost a fair bit more in tuning time too.

Factory engine looms are fairly easy once you eliminate all the plugs you dont need.

there are a lot of unessasary things in them that you may come across. I spent a good day sitting on the floor delooming a smallport loom to go into an AE85. Once i got that all sorted all that needs to be wired up to the ecu is the third plug.

This plug runs the EFI relay (controls your fuel pump), a sensor that tells your tacho what revs your doing and a couple of other things. The rest should just go straight from your engine to your ECU, no detours.

Also needs ignition power and starter power. Other then that its not to much of a headach (unless you have to extend it 2 feet or so).'

If its your first venture into doing something like this, tripple the time you think you will spend on it and make sure you have very good easy to follow wiring diagrams.

Yeah piece of cake, lol, on a RWD.

You do realise that on a FWD car the entire car runs through the engine loom,

Electric window power feeds, all the dash stuff, fuel pump feeds, power to and from ign sw, almost everything.
it's not as easy on a fwd.

Standard loom on any model car has those feeds. RWD or not regardless of age, dash, power to and from ignition is all there/needed.

Not sure about the fuel pump feeds as they are run off the efi relay which usually sits next to the ECU.

I did mention running Ignition and power lines for ECU. Most cases theres a dash plug that lives on the firewall which supplies these things.

I was just giving a broad overview and not writing a "how to wire your car".
