QQ: Cheap/easy/legit way to lower ee80 4dr hatch?

Postby joff_nz » Mon Mar 17, 2008 5:07 pm

Hey guys quick question: are there any easy ways to lower my 4dr ee80 hatch? not for performance as such, just so it's not such a damn boat.

Ie: Do ae82 fx-gt Springs / Stuts fit straight in and would they be much improvement?

remembering this is a $500 car im not gonna be spending $400 on some lowering springs.

and no i don't have an Angle grinder

you could get the springs heated and squashed maybe $20-$30 each from a blacksmith, its not "politically correct" but atleast its safer than cutties and will pass a wof if done to the right height.

no. which one do you want?

* Cheap - angle grinder / gas torch
* Cheaper - remove springs all together

* Easy - remove springs
* Easier - angle grinder / gas torch

* Legit - compressed springs
* Ligiter - compress springs + shortened shocks

Dont have an angle grinder? Get a hacksaw or a $15 grinder from one of your crappy tool supermarkets.

cut 2/3 coils and have the struts shortened to keep springs captive,
Better than compressed springs and legal

It's safe though. I'd personally go with new shocks too though!

i'm with slighty_sykotic, don't go around saying somethings legal when its clearly not.

Some people don't know all the rules and will believe what you say. Which could end in 10 types of problems for them with the law / WOF / insurance etc.

Isnt the EE80 have more in common with the AE92s than the AE82's?
Or are the 92s and 82s exactly the same?

I'm not disputing they can't be certified, but for a quick lowering job required in a situation like this, I doubt a cert is on the cards. Even if they are captive, you still need a cert.

much like wheel spacers, can get them certed, but illegal if you don't have them certed.

Would be better if certs were only like $40 :cry:
