batt light on dash not working

have a 1991 corolla wagon ae92.
i have put a 4age into it and the altenator is only reading 9 when tested with multimetre.
also the batt light on the dash dosnt work.

is this a commen problem?
also does this light need to be working to complete wiring systum?

the alt wont work the loght on the dash unless there is power to the ignition wire on the alt to turn it on.

With a multimeter you should have 12v on all the wires that go to the alt with the key on,

with a test light one should glow dim and the others all should be bright.

yeah if its only 9v then the alt obviously isnt charging. is it a 16v 4age? if so, you need to wire up the 3 wires on the back plug + there should a terminal on the side of the alternator which needs to have a batt source wired up for it to charge.

can get more descriptive if you want :wink:

yeah a 16v

what do i wire up the three wires to? is one of them a wire for dash light?
and then just + from bat so side of altenator?

dosnt sound that hard :P descriptive is best
