Disc brake conversion

Postby thedrunkfish » Sat Mar 29, 2008 5:53 pm

I want to put disc brakes on the rear of my wagon, it's a 92 ae101 corolla gl. I understand that ae101 levin brakes will straight swap in with the handbreak cables, are there any other parts needed?
Cheers

My experience of bolting AE101 disk rear onto AE101 drum brake car...
Easiest was to bolt the whole rear subframe across:
- subframe
- hubs
- disks and calipers
- handbrake cables (you will need these from the disk rear)
All as one unit.

It can be a real pain to just do the hubs without the subframe. This is due to the big bolts that connect the hub to the track arms often being VERY difficult to take out!

You will also need to swap the brake bias valve (in the engine bay on the firewall) to give the correct brake bias with rear disk brakes.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Yeah, I was going to say the bias valve is necessary, otherwise the new back brakes will lock up before the fronts and that isn't cool.

Preferably get it from the car you are getting the brakes from. No the standard ones cant be adjusted.

When I done my disk brake conversion I didn't have the bias valve, and only changed it about 3 weeks after the conversion. I did some hard braking before and after, and couldn't tell the difference.

yeh thats what i was gonna do, looks like a pain in the arse to get to. One other question, the brake hose coming off the new calipers is a rubber one but the one connecting to the drums is steel, will i need to get some new fittings to do the conversion?

Just get the lines from the car you are getting the brakes from.
