Not a Toyota..

Postby RS13 » Tue Apr 01, 2008 8:58 pm

Mate noticed a creaking noise from the front of his '95 Primera (P11), sounded like glazed pads (that sort of creaking/groaning noise), inspected the brakes and found nothing out of order.

But when we removed the calliper, the car was in neutral, but the rotor was incredibly hard to turn, almost impossible by hand? It does it on both sides, it isn't seized bearings or CVs as there is the normal drivetrain slack, perhaps something tight in the diff?

Thoughts? Any ideas as to the original creaking/groaning noise?

My bet would be the wrong trans fluid, I could be wrong, and quite possibly with out having a look, but I've had a few cases with diff's groaning with the wrong fluid.

Lol, yeah, no calliper attached. Its' really odd, the car still seems to roll alright, but jack either side up and its' the same deal, really stiff turning.

It doesn't feel like its' grating metal on metal, just like something is.. tight! Hmm. I don't see how it could be anything other than the gears in the diff? And yes, car is in neutral.. ;)

79Rolla, hes' gonna drop the oil out next couple of days and have a look, as far as we're aware it isn't an LSD.
