20v Silvertop Turbo

Postby s-twig » Mon Apr 14, 2008 11:46 pm

Hi

My mate used to own an Escort with a turbo charged 4AGZE, running a Microtech. It was
standard internally and made a reliable 200kw at the wheels on 20psi with a GT28r.

I was wondering if I was able to go for the same power figure (maybe a bit more like
300fwhp) using 4AGZE pistons, stock rods and crank with my 20v silvertop, or am I pushing the limits of the stock rods?

What I'd like to achieve is an engine that is reliable, and made with common components that are readily available and nothing too exotic.

If I am off the mark please let me know, because I'd like to know where I should be aiming for reliable power and boost.

Thanks for the advice.

chuck some 8.9:1 4agze pistons in there, maybe put new bearings in it (i would) bottom end would handle that, put new water pump on, service oil pump. and other normal mods associated

I'd do new bearings and bolts, just wondering if it's capable and what sort of boost the 4agze pistons can handle. Are the rods from a 4agze the same as the silvertop ones?

Cheers

silvertop rods are same as the later model 4agze ones.

the 4agze pistons are good for up to 300kw, the 8:1 will take more boost, but the 8.9:1's are better for response.
i run 220wkw/295whp easy with my setup, the turbo being the only limitiation at this point (relatively small VF24) as its pushing 20psi to do that, has been up to 22psi at times though.

may pay to consider spark carefully , you can use the stock dizzy or convert to the 4agze setup.
