Actually have often thought the same thing. Would be cool to have a GT4 (the game) style dash.

I imagine most of the requirements will be to do with being able to see it from the driving position & it being safe, i.e its doesn't have any protrusions and its not going to injure you if you get hit up against it.
I'd say the VRIM or LTSA website will be your friend.

I would say you are more likely to hit your head on the steering wheel rather than gauge cluster

Ring a wof station and ask them.

Then go out and grab a stack dash, they are awesome.

Autometer ones have an odo in em. As long as you've got something that can display speed, I dont think there would be any issue with it. Look at all the hot rods that get around with various gauges or speedos from other cars.

If you change the odo, all that happens is when you go for a wof, they note down the kms on the car, then LTSA see that its less than the previous wof, and make a rather large note on the motochek that it has a "Tamperd Odo" lol
So if someone was to buy your car and do a rego search on it, they will see that it has a dodgy odo (but im sure you would have pointed out it has a custom dash, hence the 0kms).

But yea, id also check with a wof/vinz place, as they like to change there mind on a weekly basis.
(and it was 6+ months ago when I sent a dodgy km'd car for a wof)
