4age check engine

hey guys my cuzn has a ae101 4age 93 trueno manual, and we took his car for a drive and noticed the check engine light is on and that the cars idle drops dramatically and the car looses power.....kinda new to toyota cars im a mitsi guy, but i was just wondering how do i do the diagnostics to retrieve the code or error that shows whats wrong with the car....oh and where to find the ecu? :oops:

Pop open the diagnostic box lid (passengers side of car next to the strut tower) and get a paperclip or little bit of wire and jump the terminals TE1 and E1. Leave it there, climb in the car and turn the key on. Count the engine check light flashes. It'll flash out long codes for the first digit of the fault code and short flashes for the second digit followed by a pause, then it'll either repeat the code or flash out the next one.

If it just flashes continuously then there is no fault code.
