6-Speed Carib box notchy

Postby petercad » Sun Apr 20, 2008 6:55 pm

Got a 6-speed Carib, and notice that the box is notchy and hard to shift when cold. What is the recommended fluid for it and is there another alternative that I can use for hard shifting when cold?

Cheers for that. Will try it this weekend. What is the redline stuff - just a 75w/90 manual trans oil?

from taking two or three for a spin, the 6spd seemed to be a lot notchier than the 5 spd... not sure if they had just been abused/mis-used or not, but the 6 spd manual in my old runx was far notchier than the 5 spd in the normal corolla

Yep, I agree, the 5-speeds are smoother. Just that this one seems worse than the other 6-speed I had 2 years ago with similar k's on it. What weight engine oil do you suggest, or just any one that is good quality.

Would be far too thin! What does the factory recommend, 75w90 or something? Plus engine oils aren't EP rated.

It has Penrite 75w90 in it now and its a little better. Still not as I remember them though. Whats the actual recommended lube for them?
