4age head swap

Postby rwd_mayhem » Tue Apr 22, 2008 5:14 pm

I'm putting two 4ages together to make one (engine 1 has a worked head but seized block, engine 2 is in working condition)

today i pulled the head off engine 2 and cleaned it up and painted the block. i want to put the worked head from engine 1 onto it, im a bit worried though, as ive never done this before. since engine 2 is seized i cant put it to TDC so i cant make marks on the cam gears (it has adjustable cam gears so there are no marks on it) I know the engine ran before being seized so where the cams are set to now is good.

what should i do? maybe put marks at the random spot its at now? on both cam gears and the bottom crank gear? not too sure how accurate that would be though.

Mark the cam gears inlet & exhaust, and put them back in the same place on the cam shaft, there is a locating pin on the end of each cam shaft.

If the aftermarket can gears dont have any marks on them, hold the standard cam gear against it and where the dimples are, mark the teeth on the aftermarket cam gears.
When you assemble the engine wind it to tdc and line up the cam gears with the marks on the timing belt back cover.
