"Roll Bar" Q's.......

Postby 3T-Rona » Mon May 26, 2008 5:45 pm

Question for anyone up to scratch on certification,
At what point does a Half cage become a full cage, say if i wanted a half cage (rear  ) Would i be able to put a brace from left to right under the dash (like later model cars have standard)
Say between the top door hinge and the base of the 'A' Pillar?
I also would like to put braces between the base of the 'A' Pillar (under the gaurd) and the part of the body where the top of the gaurd mounts (45o angle?)
Which you wouldnt be able to see once the gaurd is on......
Good idea?
Would the under dash brace be viable?
cheers
Joseph

as soon as bars venture into head space other than the main hoop, it becomes a 'full cage'

i would have thought that 45deg from the base of the A-Pillar to the height you suggest would almost certainly run through near around where the wheel would be and would be visible.

I was always wondering what this is for.

My evo had this brace, it was not a atandard one but a chunky tube

It didnt cut through anything like that, just ran behind the guard from the base of the a pillar up to where the guard mounts..

yep that sorta thing (45 was just an 'off the top of the head' thing)
but also my 'under gaurd' area is a tad different.
Would that pass through certification?

That case in particular doesnt need certification as it is part of a full rollcage (runs through and connects to the front legs) so authority card covers it. 8)

Best to put it to your local certifier and ask. then you can report back with what you find and tell us all. 8)
