Drive train

Postby R.U.F » Tue May 27, 2008 11:16 am

MY AE8X has a blue top (atlantic pistons) and T50 (exedy clutch) running standard 85 diff and modified 85 driveshaft (1 peice).

The drive train behaves pretty badly. feels as if the diff locks up sometimes. Doesn't spin up only one wheel all the time either. Feels snappy and wants to axel tramp all the time.
Wondering if it will have anything to do with the driveshaft angle or something other than the diff itself?
will the tyres be contributing? 15" toyo proxy 4s (pretty sticky)

might not be driveshaft angle, but could be pinion angle.
i cured my rear axle tramp with adjustable top links and sligthly stiffer springs ( soft gravel springs on tarmac = bad )

Thanks for that.

I do have really hard shocks and progressive springs so might be the two not mixing well. I hope to get the shocks re-valved soon so that might help.

if its struggling to break traction then tyres could be contributing.

S series diff for the lose though! im surprised its still hanging in there :P

can get traction brackets if its pretty lowered, helps with rear arm positions.

dunno if they will fit on to an S series setup though?

yeah they will fit S series, but the diff maybe on its way out if fitted,
are you wanting to slide the rear out smoothly or are you grip driving?
is it wanting to break loose but cant really slide without skipping along?
not a big fan of progressive springs, they make damper control harder

R.U.F., go to the wreckers and get to toe adjusters off a Mazda 323/ Astina or similar and weld them into your standard upper arms.

very inexpensive way of adjusting the pinion angle, but you will need to find some fancy paint if you are looking for bling as well!!

thanks guys.

Just grip driving if I push it it's very jerky and unsure if it wants to skid or not. When I try to slifde it in the dry she just bites on the outside wheels there's a delay then traction kicks in. driving on uneven shitty auckland rds it is constantly skipping and jerking under accel.
