97 Curren Front Right Tyre Rub

Postby callum_62 » Fri May 30, 2008 2:31 pm

Hi Guys,

Just noticed a real strange kind of crunching sound coming from my front right tyre on 97 Curren.

Had the car 2 years and the noise just appeared.

Had a look, and seems the tyre is rubbing on the guard....this only happens when im full lock right and REVERSING!

Tyre size is...205/55/R16....been told the tyre is 'too tall' hence the rubbing.....questions would be, why is this just happened now, and could I change the height of the tyres without changing rims?

This second hand tyre has been on there for well over 6 months....

Thanks

Check your strut, it might be stuffed. Does it have stock springs or lowered ones?

Hi,

No, everything on the car is stock I think.

I had it into Toyota/Firestone today, and he had said its simply the tyre is too tall...but if its too tall, then it shouldve always been too tall and always rubbed, surely??

Yep, always should have rubbed, tyres wear smaller not larger
See if your strut is leaking, it might be knackered and have drooped enough to rub now.

thanks for the advice....other question would be, why only when reversing full lock right?

no noises at all when driving forward, even on full lock?

Lower arm and/or swaybar bushes could be stuffed as well allowing the strut to move but only under certain loads and angles. Time to have those nolathane bushes fitted :D
See ya
