Cert Q's

Postby GDII » Sat May 31, 2008 10:08 pm

Have just finished making the 'sun visor' to cover the main gauges on my brothers starlet. Just wondering if this is legal.

Made from 3mm aluminium rounded off smooth. Is it safe to be like this?

And are the guards safe? They could be 'sharp' to some one.

Getting close. Just need to homologate the cage. Paint the inside again properly. Getting the surge tank cover welded up this week which I made.

And try to get the brakes working.

List of stuff to do is getting smaller.

Yea the part where the front guards come down to the front lip could be a problem. But I am not sure what I could do to change it. Looks cool though and is what my brother want. So I did it.

What about putting a small piece of rubber trim over the guard if its a bit too sharp? might also work on the dash shroud if the edges are deemed to pointy
Ending up with spare parts in assembling things since 1983

I always figure that in an incident, your limbs will flail with great force, and that is why edges should be well covered. Punch the edge of your dash surround... don't want to? it's probably too sharp then.
Same with the guards, get someone to drive at you at 20kph and just graze your leg with the guards, chances are that it will slice to the bone.

Dash surround isn't that sharp. You can't even reach it when belted in. Can barely reach the key to start it.

Could always put rubber over it though.

With the guards I might end up putting a vertical edge on them but the front would be hard to design something that looks good and makes it less sharp.

Good idea. Have lots of time to sort it anyway. But I'd rather not have to ruin my painting and have to weld extra metal on not to mention more weight.

Will put rubber on the cluster cover too.
